Comprehensive Capital Strategies

Course Description: In every capital case an intensive team effort is required whether the goal is a life plea, or the reality is a penalty phase trial. This course addresses some of the everyday challenges of a capital case, as well as more nuanced approaches to complex subject matters such as; race, victim impact, prior violent felony aggravators, pre-trial publicity, DIVO, lingering doubt vs. integration, etc. Participants will be provided with materials from the State of Florida vs. Byron Burch case where a Hernando County jury recommended a life sentence for the homicide of an elderly retired teacher and Sheriff’s volunteer. This course is approved for 6 CLE credits.
Dates: 11/18/15 Weds MIAMI, 12/1/15-BUSHNELL 12/4/15-TAMPA, 12/7/15-FORT LAUDERDALE, 12/8/15-OCALA, 12/9/15-JACKSONVILLE, 12/17/15-TALLAHASSEE, 1/22/16: Fri PENSACOLA. All seminars begin promptly at 10 a.m.
Locations: All seminars will be held at the local Public Defender's Office, with the exception of Jacksonsville, where it will be held at Florida Coastal School of Law.
