Judge's Corner
Welcome Judges!
Here in Judge's Corner, we have assembled some helpful information to provide guidance as you make important decisions affecting the course of capital trials.
In these economic times, every department of government feels the pressure of a tightening/decreasing budget and is forced to make difficult decisions to waste less and stretch every dollar. Florida's court system is no exception, and quite often it is judges who must decide whether precious resources will be spent during the course of a trial. When making these difficult decisions, it is crucial that the enormous pressure to conserve resources does not compromise the need for cautious and scrutinized review of cases in which the death penalty is sought. These cases are often more expensive, but with the recent signing of Governor Rick Scott's first death warrant, we are once again reminded that death is different.
Florida Capital Resource Center is dedicated to ensuring those facing the death penalty receive the proper defense and due process they deserve. Aside from providing assistance to defense attorneys, this includes promoting the proper conduct of capital trials in Florida's courtrooms.
We hope you will review these materials so we can all be sure that due process is afforded to those facing the ultimate sentence.
