Our Mission

Our mission is to assist indigent defendants facing the death penalty in Florida by providing consultation, research, advocacy, and other necessary resources to capital defenders state-wide. Recognizing the "uneven playing field" that is inherent in the defense of impoverished individuals on trial for their lives (and the gross limitations of post-conviction remedies even in the most constitutionally-violative cases), FCRC will attempt to ensure that long-standing inequities are mitigated or abolished. FCRC will operate in multiple venues, including standing with those seeking statutory and rule changes intended to remove injustice from all relevant aspects of both law and practice (such as those outlined by the American Bar Association's "Death Penalty Moratorium Project" and other credible entities). Using extant research and performing our own, we will examine the intended purposes for capital punishment in Florida and analyze if or how they are being met.
