Florida Capital Resource Center

Overview

Florida Capital Resource Center is a statewide non-profit organization with multiple layers of participants all sharing one common mission:  To assist indigent defendants facing the death penalty.  We accomplish this mission by:

• Providing expertise and practical assistance to defense counsel;
• Monitoring and impacting relevant legislation, rules changes, and other related events, and;
• Advocating for common sense and fundamental fairness on a critical criminal justice issue too long fraught with emotion and inequity.
 

Our staff and volunteers have seen the uneven playing field that is a capital trial "up close and personal," and some of us have performed post-conviction investigation and litigation – finding innocent defendants, severe mental illness and/or neurological infirmity, prosecutorial misconduct, junk science, forced confessions, and other hallmarks of a capital punishment system which fails to do justice.

We are determined to do all we can to end these and other profoundly disturbing violations of our state and federal constitutions, both in individual cases and on a systemic level.
