Melissa Ortiz was appointed Executive Director of Florida Capital Resource Center in early 2015, though she has been directly involved with the organization almost since its inception. Melissa graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 2010 where she was a member of the University’s Main Law Review and taught first-year law school students as a Dean’s Fellow. She began working with FCRC Chairman Terence Lenamon as an intern during her second year of law school and has now worked with Mr. Lenamon as an associate at Lenamon Law, PLLC, for the past five years. Melissa has worked on approximately 25 first-degree murder cases and has been an active member of the “team” in over a dozen waivers of the death penalty as well as in two first-degree murder cases that were nolle prossed. Aside from serving as co-counsel on various non-capital cases with Mr. Lenamon, Melissa has also served as third-chair counsel in three death penalty trials, all of which resulted in penalty-phase verdicts of life.
